Fifth Week of Lent: Forgiveness

icon

"Iam the resurrection and the life.... Do you believe this?" (Jn 11:25-26)

Lent is the time that many of us become more conscious and reflective about our misgivings and returning to God for forgiveness when we are being reminded of Jesus dying on the cross to free us from our sins and give us a new-life.

The liberation of forgiveness takes place when there is honesty. It is when we humbly admit our sins and welcome the mercy of God that heals and removes both our objective guilt and our subjective shame that free us from inner anguish and fear. We become a free human person with the breath of new-life. This feeling of having new-life and happiness comes from our deep encounter with God's compassion, friendship and the experience of being forgiven that give us relief and peace as in Psalm 32:1 "Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered."

As we journey closer to Holy Week, let us discover this inner joy and peace by unburdening ourselves of shame and guilt, so that we are ready to celebrate the new-life that is awaiting for us at Easter. Are we ready to seek reconciliation with God and with one another today? Do we want to be free and live in this new-life with the Spirit of God in our everyday living?
